Rerun vs Hermes Agent
Self-improving open-source agentHermes is one agent you install and run, or host on Hermes Cloud by the day. Rerun gives you a team of agents already doing the job, on one machine included in the plan.
Read the comparisonPaperclip is an open-source control plane you host: it gives the agents you already run an org chart, budgets and approval gates. Rerun gives you the agents themselves, already running on a private machine in the cloud.

Pick Paperclip if you already run several coding agents and want one org chart, per-agent budgets and approval gates over all of them, and you are happy to host a Node server and its database. Pick Rerun if you want the agents, not the place to manage them: each one runs on your workspace’s private machine, with 3,000+ apps in one click and memory between runs, for a flat $29 a month.
Side by side
Paperclip gives the agents you already run an org chart, budgets and approval gates, on a server you host. Rerun gives you the agents themselves, already running on a machine we keep up.
Key differences
Four differences that change your day to day, shown on the real product.
Paperclip hires agents you then have to supply: a harness installed on the host for each role, or a sandbox provider you bring and pay for. A Rerun agent arrives with its machine, where it writes files, runs scripts, drives a browser and keeps its own databases.
Paperclip is a Node server you install, point at a Postgres and keep patched, and letting a teammate in means switching it to authenticated mode on a server they can reach, over a LAN, a VPN or the open internet. Paperclip Cloud is still a waitlist. Rerun agents already run in the cloud, on schedule, whether you are online or not.

Paperclip’s catalog holds 62 connectors, and the setup is yours: its Gmail is limited to reading and creating drafts, a person sends them, and while Google reviews their app the Google connectors are hidden from the list. Its one-click managed sign-in only works on instances enrolled in Paperclip Cloud. On Rerun, one Google sign-in gives the agent a Gmail it reads, labels, replies to and sends from, and the rest of the catalog connects from the same screen or through any MCP server.
Paperclip lists memory and knowledge as a direction for future work, with experimental connections to Mem0, Zep or Supermemory behind an instance setting. Rerun agents keep memory, skills and a private database between runs, and get sharper every time you correct them.
## Procedure
1. Pull unpaid invoices from Stripe daily
2. Send a first reminder on day 7 past due
3. Escalate to the account owner after 2 tries
4. Log every touch in the CRM thread
## Exceptions
- Never chase an invoice under $50
- Read references/tone.md before escalating
## Billing
- Pays around day 30, sometimes later
- A PO number is required on every invoice
- Invoices go to ap@acme.co, not to Dana
## People
- Dana Reyes runs ops, answers within a day
- Escalations go through their COO
## Voice
- English, formal, no emoji
- Sign off as the founder, not an assistant
- Keep it under 120 words
## Timing
- Follow up twice, then stop
- Send whenever the draft is ready
Switching
No migration project. Start with the one task that costs you the most, and let it prove itself.
Describe its job in plain words. The agent writes its own instructions and skills, no harness to install.
One click per app. Keep the Claude or ChatGPT sign-in you were already paying for, or an API key.
The agent now runs on your workspace’s machine, on its own schedule, and asks any teammate before anything risky.
Pricing
Paperclip is free and MIT-licensed, and there is no Paperclip plan to buy. Their own quickstart budgets $5 to $20 to try it and $20 to $100 a month for an active company in model calls, on top of the machine, the database and the upkeep, with a release most weeks. Rerun is one plan from $29 a month with a secured private machine, 5 agents and model credit included, and runs are never counted.

Yes, with one difference worth knowing first. Paperclip organizes agents you install and host yourself; Rerun’s agents come with the product, already running on your workspace’s private machine, with your apps connected from the browser and a live board your team can read.
No. Paperclip is the control plane: “if it can receive a heartbeat, it’s hired.” You bring the runtime for every role, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Hermes or OpenClaw, and install it on the host. On Rerun the agent is the product, and you only choose which model it runs on.
The software is free and MIT-licensed. You pay the model bill, and their quickstart plans $5 to $20 to try it and $20 to $100 a month for an active company, plus the server, its Postgres and the time to keep both current. Rerun is $29 a month with the machine, 5 agents and model credit included.
Yes, and so can Paperclip, so this is not where they differ. Paperclip signs in with the provider’s CLI installed on its host; on Rerun you sign in from the browser, and you can also use an API key or the credit included in the plan.
Approvals, yes: agents stop before anything consequential and ask in the app, and any teammate can answer. Budgets are where Paperclip is ahead, with policies per company, agent and project that pause the work at 100%. Rerun caps the included model credit and never counts runs.
No. Rerun is a hosted product. Dedicated or self-hosted infrastructure is available on Enterprise.
